Full Face of Makeup – Quick Step by Step Guide
A lot of people have a lot of opinions about makeup in general. I personally feel that it is empowering, and is an art/skill that needs to be learnt. But thankfully, with the right products and the right approach, it is not a difficult result to achieve. This blog post is mainly to give you a simple & quick step by step guide to apply makeup for best results. I will list the products used in the end.
Now, this article is my take on this awesome concept called makeup. Makeup is something very personal, and is left up to each person to make it their own. You do you, honey!
Always start your makeup with a clean face. The first step to a fantastically made up face is to moisturize. Once you have let the moisturizer get absorbed into your skin for a few minutes, use a good primer to give you an even and poreless canvas for your art. Done? Here it goes!
Step 1: Color Correction
This step can be skipped if you are going for a very light makeup for daily wear. But if you do want to go the whole nine yards, invest in a good orange color corrector to correct darkness and pigmentation of the skin, especially around the eyes. I have extreme dark circles around my eyes so I prefer to do this step when I do a full face of makeup.
It looks ridiculous, I know. Trust me it gets better 🙂
Step 2: Foundation
This step forms the base for everything that is applied to your face. It helps even out your skin tone and make your bronzer, blush, highlighter and everything else stick. A good foundation should match your skin tone as close as possible. There are lots of materials available online on how to pick the right foundation for your skin tone. This is critical to how the finished look turns out. I prefer foundations that are medium coverage. It is buildable based on how flawless you want to look.
Step 3: Concealer
A good shade to choose is something that is in the same tone as your foundation (warm/cool based on your skin) and one shade lighter. I am glad that there are some phenomenal concealers now available in the Indian market. Applied in the right way, it gives an instant brightness to your face and highlights all the right things. I like to use the concealer on the bridge of my nose too, for that extra pizzaz.
Step 4: Eyes
Before we get into this step, set your face with a setting powder/compact powder. You can either use a translucent powder, or one that is close to your skin tone. I prefer loose powders as I feel they are better at staying matte. Now, this step comprises of several key aspects – eyebrows, eyeshadows, eyeliner, kajal, & mascara. There is an abundance of tutorials on YouTube to learn simple eyeshadow looks.
Step 5: Bronzing, Contouring & Highlighting
This is one of my favorite things about makeup. Applying a bronzer &/ contouring powder can completely change the shape of your face and cast shadows in all the right places to make you look ravishing. Highlight the tip/bridge of your nose and your cheekbones to complement your contouring by reflecting light off the high portions of your face.
Step 6: Blush & Lipstick
I guess this step needs no explanation. A good blush gives your face a rosy, sun kissed look. Choose the right lipstick shade that complements your eye makeup. If you are going full fledged on the eyes in terms of colors, I suggest picking a more subdued nude shade for your lips to make your eyes pop. But hey, it’s all you so go nuts if you like it!
Step 7: Setting Spray
Using a setting spray in the end to set your makeup is key to making your look last for several hours. It locks all of it in and can even give your face a dewy glow, based on the fixing spray you have used. I like to use it once after Step 3 (Concealer) is done as well in between. Trust me, I have worn my makeup all night and woken up several times to find my makeup intact! *NOT RECOMMENDED*
That’s it! You’re done and look fabulous!
